Surface Maintenance & Re-Painting
As macadam sports courts age, moss & algae begin to take hold and the textured paint coating becomes so worn that in areas the bare macadam is exposed to the elements.

Not only do the courts appear unsightly, the accumulation of dirt, surface water, moss and algae growth will render the surface slippery and dangerous. Courts become unplayable and unsafe.

However, in the majority of cases they do not automatically need resurfacing. In many cases thorough Chemical Treatment & Cleaning or Re-Painting will usually be sufficient to restore a court's former appearance and necessary grip.

Additional benefits are:

  • Noticeable visual improvement with moss, vegetation and silt removed.
  • Improved drainage.
  • Extended life for sports surface.

Chemical Treatment of Moss & Algae
Application of chemical treatments to kill moss and algae growth.
Carried out either prior to cleaning or on a regular basis to control growth on a shaded or damp surface.

Surface Cleaning
Thorough pressurised cleaning is required to remove dead moss, algae and detritus from within a surface. If the surface is porous macadam this will also greatly improve surface drainage.

Subsequent painting, if carried out correctly, should not adversely effect its porosity.

Court Refurbishment : Surface Binding
To a tired or heavily worn surface we often apply a surface binder. This binds the stone aggregate of the macadam together, thereby strengthening and extending the life of the court, while not affecting the porosity.

Unfortunately binder cannot be applied independently, only in conjunction with a colour coating. However, binder resins have excellent adhesion and therefore have a secondary role of improving the life of the colour coating.

Binder is often used on new courts that are heavily shaded (where coatings have reduced life because of moss growth and permanently damp areas) or heavily used surfaces, such as a school or park playground, or at a very busy club.

Court Refurbishment : Re-Painting Older Courts
Repainting an older court will rejuvenate its appearance and improve slip resistance, resulting in a court that will be a pleasure to play on once more. Additionally the new paint coating will restore strength and protection to the surface. This will help extend the life of the court's surface by increasing its long term durability, more so when used in conjunction with a surface binder.

The majority of our business is based on the Cleaning and Re-Painting of older courts. We offer both free consultation and quotations without obligation. Please feel free to contact us with any queries.

All our painting complies with the current standards laid out in the Sports & Play Construction Association (SAPCA) code of practice.
